Why is Candle Care Important?
Proper candle care is crucial for achieving an even burn and preventing tunneling, where the wax burns down the center, leaving wasted wax along the sides. By taking care of your candles, you can extend their burn time and get the most out of each one.
Trimming the Wick
Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch to prevent excessive smoking and soot buildup. A trimmed wick will also help the candle burn more evenly and reduce the risk of the flame becoming too large.
Avoiding Drafts
Place your candle away from drafts to ensure an even burn. Drafts can cause the flame to flicker and burn unevenly, leading to wasted wax. Keep your candle in a still environment to maintain a steady burn.
First Burn is Crucial
During the first burn, allow the candle to melt all the way to the edges of the container. This will help prevent tunneling and ensure that the candle burns evenly throughout its lifespan. It's recommended to burn the candle for 1 hour per inch of diameter to achieve this.
Extinguishing Properly
When extinguishing your candle, use a snuffer or gently blow out the flame to prevent hot wax from splattering. Avoid blowing out the candle, as this can cause the wick to drift off-center and lead to an uneven burn in the future.
